Sneak Peek: What we're working on in Q1 2025

I didn’t want to interrupt y’alls conversion, but as is seems to be done now - do we have a vague ETA on the update? Q1, I assume, means it’ll be out by April, which is nice. Will that be a full release, or beta?

Looks like a fantastic update is in the pipeline. I’ll be looking forward to many of the features but especially tabbed views and the ability to have those tabs focusing on the same view types with a different focus and settings. I really like the avatars too. Can’t wait for the release. When is is due?

Hi Keith and @Faustyna, at this stage we’re aiming to be in beta sometime around the end of March.

Yes! Thanks Rob! Can’t wait!

Ah, typical that my curent coverage ends end of March.

Mine runs out in May, but I figured the beta release and eventual full release was going to take a fair while longer (my guess is middle to end of April for the beta and a few months after for the release, but I may be wrong). So I added an extra 12 months of updates to my account back in January. Hopefully we won’t have to wait quite that long for the release of 3.5 though

EDIT: just wanted to add that my comments are not a criticism. As the saying goes: Good things come to those who wait  And I am sure that 3.5 will be worth the wait.

I’m happy to continue supporting AT’s development with my subscription. I’m with @ahansonauthor in my optimism.

Me, obsessively checking this thread to see if we have any more info on the beta drop date.

March 13th is basically the end of March, right?

I can’t wait to see if the syncing is fixed (bidirectional relationships where the relationships are inverse [parent/child] don’t all sync over in exports, or to Scrivener. It’ll just show Children under one character, but those children characters won’t have their ‘Parent’ anywhere, just blank). It’s the one major thing that impedes my current workflow. I think it’s been mentioned it should be.

Yes, absolutely!

Excellent set of changes. Can’t wait to play with it.

On text file, perhaps a markdown file would be very helpful. It gives more flexibility particularly when importing to note taking tools such as Obsidian

The 25th definitely is though!

Not me, sitting here refreshing the forum page in hopes we get the update today

If not the update, at least give us some more teasers! Did you guys add anything else based on feedback, or have new ideas about stuff to do?

It would be useful if AT could export to markdown, as suggested, and optionally append YAML metadata at the top of the .md file, where the metadata would be equal to the metadata that’s currently synced with Scrivener and Ulysses.

The end of March has definitely arrived now! but we’re still at least 2-3 weeks away from being ready to launch the 3.5 beta.

We don’t have any extra info to share just yet, but we’ll post an update in the beta forum when we’re getting closer to being ready.

Nooooo!

Though, with that, let me assure you that my impatience stems from truly loving Aeon Timeline. This might be the first time I’ve been hyped about an update to a program so I’m excited. It’ll be out when it’s ready, thank you for keeping us informed.

Looking forward to it!

Just please let it remain AI free and local first. Yeah, I’m a stick-in-the-mud, I know.

It Depends, I think a configurable option to turn it off or hide it maybe better for those who do not want it or additional privacyy. There are some use cases esp. for research where AI comes in handy. Just helps to not copy-paste and go to another external program to use it

Looking forward to the release… I understand there are multiple features and it would be a big drop and so the release schedule is longer. There is an opportunity though, I guess for more frequent releases going forwards with lesser features. This would also give you a chance to release often and get early user feedback

I created an account here just so I can say I strongly agree with this.

I’m currently trialing AT (it’s fantastic!) and one of the first things I checked was this forum to see how active and transparent the devs are because I don’t want to buy a product that’s at risk of becoming abandonware.

Seeing this post of the devs communicating their plans for this year is a very positive sign, though I do wish AT had a more robust system where the devs track feature request, show what’s in the works, and communicate with the community.

Any new updates or ETAs?

Hi @Faustyna and all,

Thank you for your continued patience and support — it really means a lot to us.

Version 3.5 is still very much in active development. While we don’t have a confirmed beta date just yet, we’re getting close.

This is a substantial update with some major changes under the hood, which has taken longer than we originally hoped. Some personal challenges within the team have also caused delays. We’re a small team, so those things can have a big impact — but we’re making steady progress.

That said, we’re truly excited about the new features, and we’re really looking forward to seeing it out in the world and hearing what you think.

I can share one small extra preview: while improving the timeline drag preview, we extended those changes to other views as well. In 3.5, when you change an item’s date, you’ll see a preview of any other events that will also move due to nesting or dependencies. It’s a small detail, but one that we hope makes it much easier to see exactly what’s being affected as you make changes.

Thanks again for bearing with us. We’re doing everything we can to get 3.5 into your hands as soon as possible.
