Additional information in lists

Again, working with my family tree which (as with most families) has a number of people over the years with the same name. This makes it very tricky to select the correct person from any list where they are shown.

Could some additional information be included with the list entries to help distinguish between entries with the same label? e.g. append start date or some other relevant (user-identified) piece of useful information (e.g. a custom property)?

can you add middle initials, or junior, the third etc. If those are not possible then change the number of capital letters
Original Oliver Winton is this way, next generation is OLiver Winton, OLIver Winton etc and just keep a key to remind you where in the family tree the spelling variations fall.

What you need is a sort key as an additional property.
In our family tree, we organize it according to the pattern <last name> <first name> <year of birth>. This has the advantage that people with the same name are sorted by age.

For exampe:

Key Name
_______________________________________
Winton Oliver 1897 Oliver Winton
Winton Oliver 1923 Oliver Winton
Winton Oliver 1950 Oliver Winton
etc.

With AT, you may want to use the sort key as a label, and the full name as an additional property.

At the minute i have the list sorted by name (label) and then by Start date which does at least put the youngest person at the bottom of the list of people with the same name. Still involves a bit of educated guesswork when selecting.

I think i would rather keep the Name as the actual label as opposed to switching it out with an additional property. Good suggestion though. Thanks @Peter_T

@Goaliedad - They aren’t all parent/child as the name will often skip a generation (In Scotland the first born son was generally named after the father’s father, the second son after the mother’s father and then the third after the father).

Also not keen on altering the casing of the labels as these are displayed throughout the app and it is only when viewed out of context (like in these lists) where i really need the additional information.

Or even add birth year at end of name for identical names. Numbers would identify and place on your timeline.
