Can I display selected events, or children of an event , on one horizontal line?

newbie (only my second timeline).

I am trying to make a timeline for hurricanes. They go through phases, eg, Tropical Depression, Tropical Storm, Hurricane cat1, Hurricane cat 2, Tropical Storm, Tropical Depression. I would like to show one like this

Yellow = Tropical Depression
Green = Tropical Storm
Red = Hurricane
No overlaps
The triangle is the best I could do for an event (diamond), and would indicate landfall.

Thank you.

That is an interesting exercise, Jim. I solved it with Aeon Timeline 2 as follows:

  1. To make it quick, I took the novel template and created arcs as hurricanes (of course, it would be more elegant to create a “Hurricane” item type that essentially has the properties of the arc).

  2. I grouped the Timeline view by arcs.

  3. Then I created each phase as an event with the right color, and assigned it to the hurricane. I made the phases dependent, so the whole “hurricane” can be moved along the timeline.

  4. The desired display is created by collapsing the hurricane groups. A bit muted in the colors, but acceptable, isn’t it?

  5. Other events are not assigned to a “hurricane” arc, so they appear in the “No Arc” group.

As far as I know, grouping works a little differently with Aeon Timeline 3. It would be interesting to know the solution.

Good luck,
Peter

Thank you. I actually have AT2 also. Got it to work there, will try to make it work on AT3

In Aeon Timeline 3, you do not have to collapse the hurricane groups to see this type of display.

On Timeline View, if you click on the “Customize item card” icon in the bottom left (the card icon) and tick “Marker only”, this will show the events lined up next to each other on the one line as you are looking for (as long as they don’t overlap in time).

I have attached an example image here:
