I’m getting back into writing and using AT3 to organize a fanfic while I reacquaint myself with planning stories out, focusing on the fundamentals before I return to doing original work. In the course of doing this I have noticed that there are only two numbering systems for narrative items, the index and continuous methods. I’ve created some custom items to serve as chapters and scenes, and since the scene numbering is continuous Scene 1 of Chapter 2 is “Book 1, Part 1, Chapter 2, Scene 5.” What I would like to see is the ability to reset the numbering depending on the level of the section. So if I have two “Book” folders, each book starts with its own “Book X, Part 1, Chapter 1, Scene 1.” The ability to tell AT3 that parts and chapters reset for every book, and scene numbers reset with every chapter.
In the narrative tab of the settings menu there could be a drop down beside every section that would allow a user to link scene numbering to the chapter, or chapter numbering to the book. I’m not sure if it is feasible on the back end, but it would be a welcome QOL feature.
