Where do I place a description for a character? In summary, I have placed extensive backstory on my main characters. Is this where the description goes and, if so, where is a better location for the backstory? Thank you for any advice you have.
Could you put the character’s backstory in the Notes field for that character?
Many authors will use an app other than AT for this kind of information. I use Obsidian. One reason is its flexibility. Another is that I worry about losing such information in the event of an AT glitch (though it’s never happened).
If you use Scrivener, you can use it for this kind of information. It’s arguably better suited for story bible stuff than AT.
Hi @JLewis sorry I’m a bit late to the party here, but just wanted to add that you can create custom property fields to add to your characters to capture any type of information you like. You can split the info up into sections so you don’t have to add it all to the summary.
- Click the gear icon on the top right of the screen to open settings.
- Select the Properties tab.
- Click the Add button at the bottom of the grey rectangle on the left.
- Give your new property a name.
- Choose the format (single/multi-line text etc).
- Choose which item type to add it to (Character).
- Click OK.
