Has anyone transferred data from a genealogy software into AT?

I am exploring this option. Don’t really want to repeat work if it has been done. Would like contact info please.
Thanks

I have not “transferred” data, but I use Gramps in parallell with AT3 for when I need a timeline to find time-based/time-related relations, e.g. if I have multiple names with similar vital data, I create a timeline with all these “objects” data as I find them, creating multiple lifelines for these objects.

I add places to these “lifelines”, as e.g. residence, a known place where somene or something was at a given place", this way I can filter out who or what can not be what I am looking for.

I also use Obsidian and Foam for VSC for similar research.

There are no easy way to transfer data from any genealogy software to another file format, but on github you can find a few scripts that can transcode a gedcom file to a csv file and with a little work, that csv file can be imported to AT3.

Thanks Jaran. Seems like ther is work to be done.

Yes, there is some work to get genealogy data into AT…

I forgot to mention that from Gramps, you can actually export to a csv file and with some work it might be that you will be able to import those CSV files, you can either export from the “views” in Gramps or do a more general CSV export.

But those CSV files are not similar to those in AT3.

It might also be possible to use the supertool gramplet to create a more compatible CSV file from Gramps, but I have not tried that either.

I do not know about any other genealogy tool/software that export to a CSV file or text file that can be imported to AT3.

An interesting challenge. Could you redact/anonymize a few records of a sample genealogy csv file and provide a dropbox link? Please be protective of your privacy, of course,

If you want to try create anything for Gramps, I suggest that you install Gramps and import the example/test database, that way you will get data for most feature that will be of interest to import to AT3.

The same data is also available as gedcom files and the XML format.

Hi Jaran,
Thanks. I have some work to finish before I get to this. Let’s keep in touch.
