How to sync .AEON file created on Windows PC to Ipad

Newbie here,

For the life of me, how do I sync .AEON file created on Windows PC to Ipad? and vise versa?
I thought by logging in it will automatically synchronize all the content created on a Windows PC.

Any help is appreciated!!

Thanks

Aeon Timeline 3 is not (yet) a cloud-based system, though the developers say such a version is in the works. In the meantime, you’ll have to sync via cloud storage.

I do much the same as you’re trying to do, though in my use case I sync between my Windows desktop and my Windows laptop.

I put the question to Copilot using your specific situation. The response looks valid to me:

1. Using Cloud Storage

A reliable way to keep your project in sync is by storing your .aeon file in a cloud-synced folder. Here’s how:

  1. Choose Your Cloud Service Pick a service that works on both platforms, such as Dropbox, OneDrive, or iCloud Drive.

  2. Save Your File to the Cloud Folder (on Windows PC)

  • Locate your project file on your PC.
  • Move or copy the .aeon file into your cloud service’s sync folder.
  • Confirm that the file has completely uploaded to the cloud.
  1. Open the Project on Your iPad
  • Make sure the corresponding cloud app (or the Files app if you’re using iCloud Drive) is installed on your iPad.
  • In Aeon Timeline on your iPad, use the “Open” or “Import” feature to navigate to the cloud location.
  • Alternatively, you can open the Files app, locate your .aeon file, and choose “Copy to Aeon Timeline.”
  1. Keep the Workflow Organized
  • Close the project when done: Always close the file after finishing your work on one device. This ensures that the cloud service can fully sync the latest changes.
  • Avoid Concurrent Edits: Do not work on the file at the same time on both devices, as this can lead to conflicts or corruption.
  • Check for Updates: Before starting a session, confirm that the file has been fully synced from the other device.

2. Manual File Transfer

If you prefer not to use cloud storage, you can manually transfer the file between devices using methods like iTunes File Sharing, email, or dedicated file transfer apps.

  1. From Windows to iPad:
  • With Aeon Timeline closed on your Windows PC, export or save your updated .aeon file.
  • Transfer the file to your iPad (via iTunes File Sharing or another method available to you).
  • Open Aeon Timeline on the iPad and import the new file.
  1. From iPad to Windows:
  • When editing on the iPad, make sure you save and close the project.
  • Transfer the updated .aeon file back to your PC using your chosen method.
  • Replace or merge with your previous version on the PC (it’s wise to back up the older version first).

Quick Visual Workflow for Cloud Sync:

[Windows PC]
    |
v (Save *.aeon* file to Cloud Folder)
[Cloud Storage (Dropbox/OneDrive/iCloud)]
    |
    v (Sync to iPad)
[iPad - Open/Import File in Aeon Timeline]

And back:

[iPad - Edit and Save File]
    |
    v (File syncs to Cloud)
[Cloud Storage]
    |
    v (Sync to Windows PC)
[Windows PC - Open/Update Project]

Additional Tips

  • Version Compatibility: Always ensure that both your Aeon Timeline 3 for Windows and iOS versions are up-to-date. This avoids potential issues with file format changes.
  • Backup Regularly: Whether you use cloud sync or manual transfers, keep a backup of your project. Cloud services often have versioning features which can be helpful if you need to revert changes.
  • Check Official Resources: Since software updates can add new features like native syncing, it’s a good idea to check Aeon Timeline’s official documentation or user forums periodically for new methods or improvements.
  • Workflow Considerations: Think about the timing of your edits. For the smoothest experience, complete your work on one device (and allow the file to sync) before starting on the other. This minimizes risk and keeps both versions coordinated.

Using one of these methods should help you enjoy the flexibility of working on your Aeon Timeline projects across devices. Given the evolving nature of such tools, it might be worthwhile to explore any new features that future updates might bring regarding native syncing or cloud integration.

Thank you very much for the thorough reply!

That’s what I thought actually, just to store the file on Google Drive or Synology. I think this is a safe more privacy centric solution compared to the cloud sync provided by Aeon Timeline software maker.

Thanks again!!
