Is it possible to view the same date across multiple years in stacked timelines?

Hello,

I’m interested in using Aeon Timeline as a kind of naturalist’s journal to track recurring events in nature — such as first blooms or animal sightings — across multiple years. I realize Aeon wasn’t designed specifically for this, but the visual timeline layout seems ideal for comparing seasonal events over time.

What I’d like to do is have a timeline where each year appears on its own horizontal row (or lane), so I can easily compare what was happening on a specific date across different years — for example, seeing when I first spotted a swallowtail butterfly each spring, without having to scroll back and forth through the years.

Is there any way to set up the timeline so that each row represents a different year, and I can view them all at once — either through some sort of stacked or split view? I tried using the “Split View Horizontally” feature, but it seems like the date range controls both views at once. Is there any way to decouple that, or another workaround?

Apologies if this is an odd use case or a silly question — my trial has expired, so I can’t experiment with it anymore to find out.

Thank you!

Hi @WJohnson I’m very sorry for the lack of response to your question.

You were on the right track with your experimentation. Splitting the views horizontally can give you multiple versions of the same timeline, but to stop them all moving as one, you just need to deselect the little padlock icon on the bottom right of the screen.

With that unlocked, you can then scroll each split horizontally to view different years without the others moving in unison.

Just be aware that if you select an event and click Find in view, they will all scroll to center on the selected event, which could be frustrating if you’d gone through the effort to manually position multiple splits.

If you’d like more time to experiment with the app, just let me know, and we’d be happy to extend the trial for you.

@AeonRob thank you! That was exactly what I was looking for. I feel a little silly that I didn’t figure that out.
