Issues with Setting Task B Exactly 3 Days After Task A Using Constraints

Hi everyone,

I’m configuring a timeline where Task B starts exactly 3 days after Task A finishes using the “Dependencies and Constraints” feature. My setup is:

  1. Select Task B.
  2. Open the inspector and go to the “Dependencies and Constraints” tab.
  3. Under “Date Constraints,” click the add icon (:heavy_plus_sign:).
  4. Choose “Start is after end of an item.”
  5. Set in offset “3 days”

This works fine if the interval between Task A and Task B is less than 3 days. If i set under 3 days i get a warning. However, when the interval exceeds 8 days, it doesn’t work, and no error message/warning is displayed.

Has anyone encountered this issue? Any tips or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Is Task A locked? I can get warnings if I move Task B less than 3 days if Task A is locked.

I don’t get warnings for more than 8 days.

The constraint of 3 days means task b can’t start less than 3 days after task a. More than 3 days won’t trigger a warning.

Amontillado is correct, you way you have set up your constraint means that Task B needs to be 3 or more days after Task A. That is why it is not triggering when it exceeds 8 days.

If you want it to be exactly 3 days after, then you need to set it to be “Start equals end of item” with an offset of “3 days” instead.

Ah now it works. Thanks

But sometimes, the resolve Button is buggy…
