Locations Not showing in sidebar area

I have 19 locations in my Aeon Timeline, I can see them in events and click on item to view info on it in the Inspector, but my sidebar item locations is empty but they are clearly in the system. Also when click add location nothing happens. Anyone know what is happening. (Were there before.)

I fixed this by deleting the corrupted sidebar item and readding it.
When readded had to choose how to handle existing data for deleted types and assigned them back to locations and they appeared and everything is good. Had same problem with character groups where could not create new items in the sidebar and did the same. Key area to check is this one.

Hi,
Glad to hear that you managed to fix this.

Could you see if you have a backup copy of the file prior to you fixing it? You can check your backups via Tools → Manage Backups. When restoring an older version, you will be prompted to ask where to save it - just be careful to give it a new name and not overwrite the current version.

If you do have a backup, it would be great if you could email the file to support@aeontimeline.com so that we can investigate and understand what was happening in this case.

Thanks,
Matt

Sorry do not have a backup, but when was corrupted cold not add entries from sidebar for locations and filters showed zero for locations as well.

Thanks, this is the first report of this issue, but I will keep an eye out to see if we can reproduce it.

I’m experiencing the same thing with my character list! Even when I make a “new Person” it disappears from the list immediately. With almost 70 entries, this is devastating.
But I tried out your solution on a new file and it worked! So, thank you very much.

Im so glad it worked for you. I know how frustrating it was for me till it got fixed.

I have managed to get this in a very small file that I have emailed to the support team.

Here are the list of changes from the empty template I did, in no particular order, before noticing the issue happened to the “Event” type:

  • Deleted the “Location” type
  • Disabled the “narrative” setting of the “Event” type
  • Removed all fields but “Date” and “Person” from the “Event” type
  • Removed nesting options from the “Event” type
  • Switched the “Event” type to identifier compact display
  • Unchecked “Allow dates” from the “Person” type
  • Switched the “Person” type to avatar compact display
  • Removed all fields but “Event” from the “Person” type

This doesn’t mean all these have to be true to trigger the problem, but it does mean that all those were true when the problem was occurring.

Doing a quick byte diff between a working version and a non-working version, it seems the Sidebar panel affected are missing the correct visibleTypes property entry - a healthy file will have a type listed in it, the corrupted file has that property empty.

Up to the dev team to figure out what actually causes this

Thanks so much all for the reports, and @SmugRainbowPony for the details.

We’ve found when the bug is occurring, and will be releasing a fix as soon as possible.
