More options to import metadata from Scrivener

I would love if have more options to import metadata from Scrivener from scrivener’s existing metadata fields especially if importing a mature Scrivener project with lots of data.
Also if possible moving up the image icon for characters and locations would be much preferred with having to scroll down to the bottom of the character card.

Hey @Goaliedad which other Scrivener fields would you like to be able to sync?

For your second point. That is actually something you’ll be able to do in version 3.5. You’ll be able to choose which informational fields are shown on each item type, and the order they’re displayed :slightly_smiling_face:

What I meant was when choose to Sync can sync with scrivener labels, and custom metadata text fields such as start and end date, but otherwise must add from Aeon’s side which creates in Scrivener and works great if starting in Aeon. I worked the other way from a mature Scrivener Project and would love more options to pick already more of my created custom metadata text fields in scrivener.
Another wish list would be for the calendar. (Love it) you have days, hours, minutes, seconds.
Could we have the option on the day scale to have morning, afternoon, twilight, evening for situations before watches existed, or for people on a hero’s journey travelling where that level of precision might be all you need.
I personally added a Property field I called Story Notes so could add from Scrivener or Aeon to the other to give notes on the narrative or timeline multitext line format.

You’re correct there. New fields created in Aeon Timeline can be recreated for you in Scrivener during the sync process, which is very handy.

Custom metadata in Scrivener can also be synced over to Aeon Timeline, so you can bring over all that information you’ve added there, but you’ll need to create the fields on the Aeon side to make them appear as options to sync. They can’t be created for you.

To make Story Notes available for syncing: (you can repeat these steps for any other custom meatada fields).

In Scrivener: Make sure that the box for “Wrap Text” is checked in the custom metadata settings.

In Aeon Timeline:

Create New Property Field

  • Open Settings.
  • Highlight the Properties tab.
  • Click “Add” (bottom left of the menu) and give it a name (Story Notes).
  • Set the format to “Multi-line text”.
  • Check the box for the item type the field should apply to.

Adjust Sync Settings:

  • Open the sync panel and click the gear icon to open sync settings.
  • Click the blue “Show Options” button.
  • Click “Next” until you get to the Sync Properties page.
  • “Story Notes” should now be an option. Click the dropdown to link it to the Story Notes metadata field in Scrivener.

  • Click “Next” until you get to the final page. Click “OK”.
  • Click “Sync Now” to import your story notes into Aeon Timeline.

I hope that works for you. Let me know how you go!

Thank you very much. This is what I should have done to sync already existing Scrivener custom metadata fields. Always a learning process at first. I used this for a finished novel in Scrivener to work out the kinks. But in Aeon, I saw incorrect title capitalization and fixed in Aeon and wallah in sync my Scene title are corrected in Scrivener.
This will be fun to implement from the beginning in a fantasy novel I’m working on now.

I plan to create an Aeon Timeline Scrivener Novel Template which will have a Character Folder, Location Folder and the Custom Metadata fields as mulitline text (with the wrap function) built to match My current Aeon Timeline Scrivener novel Template. When done in a coupla weeks (lot going on with current novel project) can post if you think might be useful to others.

Yeah for sure. Feel free to post it in the Templates and Showcase channel when you’re done.
