Nesting Scenes into Chapters

I’ve searched on the interwebs, the forum, and manual. I cannot find any information on how to nest scenes into chapters, even in the Narrative or Outline view. I’m probably overlooking something very simple (wouldn’t be the first time). If someone could explain it to me as if to a 5 year old, that would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mary.

Hi!

Have you already created chapters in Narrative or Outline?
To nest scenes in the Narrative view you can drag&drop the events from timeline or use +add button in the chapter.

Not sure how far you’ve got, as you don’t say…

Here’s a starter:

  1. Create a new project using the Fiction/Novel template
  2. Go to Narrative view
  3. Top left, Add a Narrative Folder. Note that it says Untitled/Part 1
  4. If you don’t want Parts, then go into Settings (cog top right) and open the Narrative tab. Uncheck Part (and Passage, if you wish). Click OK.
(Note that the Narrative folder is now titled Chapter 1.)
  5. Click Add – the one below the Chapter 1 text.
  6. Select Event. That adds Scene 1.
Note that the Event is added to the Spreadsheet, but not the Timeline.

If you wish add scenes from Timeline events, then enter split view, with Timeline in one window and Narrative in the other, and drag events from the Timeline into Narrative.

If you don’t see the Part/Chapter/Scene text, then you’ve probably switched off Narrative Position – see options bottom left.

At 4: if you do want Parts, then just add another Narrative folder inside the Part to get a Chapter.

OMG - thank you so much.

Someone needs to be sure this is added to or clarified in the instructions or manual or knowledge base or somewhere.

Mary.
