Nesting vs Parent

Just came back to this software and upgraded to V3.5.40 and I constructing a historical timeline. The major group is Battles in Normand and in the past I would create the separate battle and list the broader group “Balles of Normandy” as the parent … I would then click this broader (parent Group) and the child event would then be shown. New version has nests… except when I click on the "battle of Normandy (with the nested events) I dod not see the nested events on the timeline… Has Paren t been replaced with nest… if not how do I get the parent drop down…
a bit confused.

Hi @trutyjoh

Yes, that’s correct. In v3.5, we changed the terms from “Parent/Child” to “Nested/Nest Under.” The way it works is still the same, though.

Are you using the spreadsheet view to set up these nested events?

In the spreadsheet, you can create events and arrange them in any order, even without dates. However, they won’t show up on the timeline unless you add them, even if they’re nested under a parent event that does appear.

The screenshots below are taken from the Warfare starting template – you can click an image to expand it.

The nested events are shown in the inspector, but won’t show on the timeline without dates.

I hope that helps!
