I am assuming narrative folders are what you set like in my novel Acts and Chapters are narrative folders with no active writing and the scenes have the info, tags, characters. I don’t use them with dates, of info. If they are for organization is it safe to sever any relationships to them if they are just placeholders in the way I use them?
It all depends on what you want to sync with Scrivener. The knowledge base article Sync Settings is helpful.
At a minimum, you’ll want to sync your Manuscript (or equivalent) folder. Here are my sync settings:
Personally, I’m happy having my various items, such as Character, in Aeon Timeline and not Scrivener. But if I wanted them also in Scrivener, I would add the appropriate Scrivener folder(s) under the Entity Folders selection. At some point, I might do that to have redundant data in both apps. So far, though, I haven’t felt the need to.
I was talking about narrative folders and what you associate with them.
Ah, okay. You’re talking about relationships for the folders “Acts” and “Chapters,” as you might set in the inspector for a given act or chapter. I can think of no reason why you need any relationship set for these folders. It’s safe to sever them, as a direct answer to your question.
That said, I have always found it helpful to have my main character selected in the Character item type relationship in chapter folders. It solves the issue where chapter titles do not appear in the Narrative Subway view. Since I almost always include my main character in any Subway view of the narrative I want to see, this guarantees I will see the chapter name rather than just the scene names. This is just a usage tip that fits my own needs; your mileage may vary.

For those using 3.4 or earlier, the Subway view is limited to the timeline. I am referring to the ability in 3.5, now in beta, to create a custom tab showing a subway view of the narrative.
Hi @Goaliedad Narrative folders are mostly there to help you organize scenes in the narrative and match the document structure in Scivener/Ulysses when syncing, but they could come in handy for tracking story arcs and character appearances etc. if you wanted to.
There’s no need to assign relationships to your narrative folders if the scenes already have them, though. It really all depends on what you want to do, and whether you want to see those relationships at the book/chapter level or not.
It should be fine to sever any relationships from the folders that you don’t need. Just make sure that they’re assigned to the relevant scenes before you do so.
