Quick check: Can I run AT3 on a windows 10 PC + change to other laptop?

Hi,

I need to send in my laptop for repairs. I have an old laptop that runs on Windows 10 and I can’t upgrade it to Windows 11 (tech things). Can I install Aeon Timeline 3 on tat Windows 10 laptop? I couldn’t quite find requirements (maybe I overlooked them)?

Oh, and do I need to de-activate my license on my current laptop to be able to use it on my old laptop?

Thanks for the help!

There seems to be no problem, just install it on your old laptop, if it is of the 64-bit type.
About system requirements and licensing:

  • Windows app requires Windows 7+ 64-bit
  • A single license allows for install on up to five devices.

Thanks again so much! You’re truly a live saver! IIRC the old laptop is the 64-bit type, so that shouldn’t be a problem

You should deactivate your license on your laptop before you send it in for repairs, as otherwise it will continue to use up a slot in your device limit (5). Them if the hard drive is reset/wiped or the program uninstalled, you won’t have a way to deactivate it yourself.

Does Aeon Timeline 2 also have such a concept of a limited number of slots?
I’m asking because I’ve had to replace defective computers and hard disks several times over the years and never bothered to deactivate my Aeon Timeline 2 license.

Thank you, Jess! I’ll deactivate my license today and activate it on my old laptop.

Yes Aeon TImeline 2 also has a device limit of 5.

If you find you have reached the limit and don’t have access to your old machines, you can email us at support@timeline.app and we can sort it out for you.

Thank you for the clarification, @jess.
However, I can’t see how many of my “slots” have already been used up.

If it’s not too much trouble, can you please tell me in which of the following cases a new “slot” was taken? I think this will also help in future to estimate when it is better to deactivate one’s licence beforehand.

  1. Windows upgrade from Vista to Windows 7, with a new installation on the same hard drive, including all applications.
  2. HDD replacement by SSD with reinstallation of Windows, including all applications.
  3. Windows 10 reinstallation on the same hard drive (including all applications) to remedy instabilities after Windows update.

Basically, the question is whether every installation and registration process of Aeon Timeline 2 counts, or whether reinstallations are recognised by a footprint, and when this footprint would change.

Yes in each of those cases you would have used up a new “slot”.

Thank you for the reply. So my only device in use is now running “on the last slot”, I suppose.
