Relative Dating with T+ / T- Notation

I’d like to request the ability to assign events relative to another anchor event using shorthand such as T+25 or T-10 (e.g., “25 years after Event T” or “10 years before Event T”).

This kind of relative dating would streamline timeline building, especially for :

  • Complex projects with multiple interconnected storylines or historical anchors.

  • Adjust timelines dynamically/complex timelines flexible— if the anchor event shifts, all related events could automatically update accordingly -->> if chosen by the user.

  • Tracking character births/deaths relative to major historical or story events.

  • Quickly setting milestones without calculating absolute dates.

  • Keeping complex timelines flexible — if the anchor event shifts, all related events update automatically.

I guess what you mean is dependencies. Something like that already works.
With my version of AT, it is quite easy: Just create an event by double clicking anywhere in the timeline view, then go to the properties and add a dependency. This sets the date/time relative to another existing event.

There is an article in the AT3 knowledge base how to do it:

Cheers,
Peter

As @Peter_T mentioned, dependencies and constraints should get you most of the way to what you’re looking for, but I’ll pass your suggestion along.

Something that may address one of your other points is ‘Shift Items By’.

Select an event and go to Item in the system menu at the top of the screen. You can then type in the number of hours/weeks/years you’d like to move it by. Put a minus before it to go back in time.
