Specific dates have disappeared - HELP

Help! Suddenly all the specific dates have disappeared!

So every entry where I typed “April 28, 1787,” now only reads “April 1787.”

It does that on spreadsheet view, timeline view, etc.

Cannot for the life of me figure out how that happened, or how to get it back, and can’t located any place in instructions…

Aeon Timeline has the option for you to set the maximum precision for dates of your events. It sounds like this has been changed, and that’s why you can no longer have events with day precision.
Open Timeline Settings (the cog icon) and look under the dropdown titled Maximum Precision. If you want to be able to have days, then it should say day or smaller (eg. hour, minute, second etc.), whereas it sounds like it is set to month.

Big Problem - Because I wanted a person’s age at death to just be in years, not years, months, days, hours, etc. I tried changing “Maximum Precision” under “Calendar and Date” from “Day” to “Year.” Now ALL of the dates I’ve entered in MM/DD/YYYY format for both characters’ birth/death days and Event dates simple show up at YYYY on my timeline, narrative, outline, characters’ birth/death, etc. I don’t have a day or month anywhere. OF COURSE, I went back and changed “Maximum Precision” to “Day” but the MM/DD/YYYY is not showing up. Has all of that date info I painstakingly entered changed irreparably to YYYY? I certainly hope not!

Unfortunately this is the way that changing the precision works, it does overwrite the dates internally, so changing the precision back again doesn’t get them back.

Initially you can just undo the action via the Edit menu, however this may not work anymore if lots of other changes have been made in the meantime, or the program has been closed.

You may be able to recover a backup from before you changed the dates, you can read about recovering backups here: Recovering backup files - Aeon Timeline 3 Knowledge Base
