Stuck in "Read-Only" mode and unable to log out

Aeon Timeline
Version: 3.1.9
Shell Version: 3.1.9
Opening Mode: Read-only
Operating System: Windows 10
Device Model: GS66 Stealth 10UE

I’m stuck in Read-Only mode. I’m trying to log out so I can sign in again but it gets stuck at “processing”… What can I do? Is there a way to force log out? I’ve even tried uninstalling the app twice but it’s still stuck there.

Hi,

We also received your email about this, so have sent a reply through that channel.

I am having this exact problem with the latest version (3.4.23). I can access my timelines on my older computer that has an older version installed(3.3.18), so I believe that indicates my license is good. But I am afraid if I update on that computer, it too will get locked in read only.

This happened during a recent Aeon update on my main computer, has been locked in read only since

(was just wondering if there was a fix for OP’s instance that would work for me)

Posting these steps here for anyone else who encounters this issue on Windows:

  1. Close Aeon Timeline
  2. Go to this location in File Explorer: C:\Users*YourUserName* \AppData\Local\Aeon Timeline where YourUserName is the user name you are logged into on your computer
  3. Rename the file called “preferences.json” to something else (eg. “preferences_old.json”)
  4. Restart Aeon Timeline

@Klownchez, we’ve sent similar steps to those as well as additional troubleshooting steps in reply to your email. Let us know how it goes and if you continue to run into issues. Thanks for your help in getting this resolved.

Thank you! Sorry I didn’t get back to this sooner. I’m glad it was such a simple fix, worked like a charm
