Under what circumstances would I use the ID column?

I have a Scrivener project that I sync with Aeon Timeline. I’ve noticed in Spreadsheet View that the ID column is empty. From the documentation it appears that this column would only be useful if I was importing and exporting data and modifying the data outside of Aeon in a spreadsheet or some other non-syncable software. Is that correct, or are there other scenarios where it would be useful?

If I do want to use it, what is the best way to populate it?

Thanks for any guidance you can provide!

Yes that column is only useful for importing/exporting data to and from csv files. There isn’t a way for you to populate or edit the values, they are created by default when the item itself is created.

The reason it would be blank would be if you have set Compact Data to be displayed as labels or initials (instead of this ID value). This is a setting in Advanced Settings (Advanced Settings - Aeon Timeline 3 Knowledge Base) You can change it by selecting “Identifier” under the heading “Compact Display” for each item type in Advanced Settings.

However if you are wanting to display short labels or initials on places such as the timeline, then you probably would want to leave it as it is and just remove the display of the column.
