What Used to Sync in Aeon v2, Doesn't Sync in Aeon v3

Greetings!

I’d been using Scrivener v3.4 with Aeon v2.3. I’d tried Aeon v3 when it first came out, but many things didn’t sync and I had to get on with my Scrivener project. But I’m at a major editing phase in my project and many of Aeon’s v3 features seem too cool to pass up—so I bought the upgrade, and am using v3.4.23.

I’ve been fighting sync ever since, but I persist. I’ve had some successes, mostly by converting the Aeon v2 file to v3. Some things continue to sync in v3, but too many still don’t. This is the old “CustomMetaDataSettings” within Scrivener’s .scrivx file, as was generated/maintained by Aeon v2

<CustomMetaDataSettings>
   <MetaDataField ID="aeonarc" Type="Text" Wraps="No" Align="Left">
      <Title>Aeon Arc</Title>
   </MetaDataField>
   <MetaDataField ID="aeonevent" Type="Text" Wraps="No" Align="Left">
      <Title>Aeon Event</Title>
   </MetaDataField>
   <MetaDataField ID="aeondate" Type="Text" Wraps="No" Align="Left">
      <Title>Begin Time</Title>
   </MetaDataField>
   <MetaDataField ID="aeonenddate" Type="Text" Wraps="No" Align="Left">
      <Title>End Time</Title>
   </MetaDataField>
   <MetaDataField ID="aeonlabel" Type="Text" Wraps="No" Align="Left">
      <Title>POV Character (color)</Title>
   </MetaDataField>
   <MetaDataField ID="aeonCharacter" Type="Text" Wraps="Yes" Align="Left">
      <Title>Characters</Title>
   </MetaDataField>
   <MetaDataField ID="location" Type="Text" Wraps="Yes" Align="Left">
      <Title>Locations</Title>
   </MetaDataField>
   <MetaDataField ID="scenegoals" Type="Text" Wraps="Yes" Align="Left">
      <Title>Scene Goals</Title>
   </MetaDataField>
</CustomMetaDataSettings>

I’ve deleted “aeonarc” as I didn’t think I needed it (only used it for “Act I”, “Act II”, etc). Also deleted “scenegoals” as it was a field I created in Aeon v2, but the need for it has passed.

I’ve deleted “aeonevent” as it wasn’t syncing with Aeon v3, which insisted on using the title in Scrivener’s Binder. So I gave up and am using the title in Scrivener’s Binder.

Hallelujah! “aeondate” and “aeonenddate” do sync. Life would be pure hell if they didn’t.

“aeonlabel” is the old Color tag in Aeon v2. I kinda hated the way v2 did POV Character and Characters, as a POV character couldn’t also be on the list of characters for a scene. Then I realized it’s possible to repurpose Color to be POV Character, and my Events would look beautiful in Aeon. However, Aeon v3 uses Color differently than v2, plus this tag does not sync. I’m fiddling with creating a POV Character item type. Hope It shows up in Scrivener, and is sync-able.

I need “aeonCharacter” and “location” to sync. They don’t, and I don’t see how to make them work.

So the big question is, how do I sync “aeonCharacter” and “location”?

Thanks a million for your help.

I figured it out.

  1. Go to Sync
  2. Click on the gear (upper right)
  3. Click on the “Show Options” button
  4. In Folders, click on the “Next” button
  5. In Properties click on the “Next” button (but we’ll come back to this later)
  6. In Relationships, choose your relationships and select the Scrivener field to sync to
  7. Click the “OK” button

Here’s my Relationships popup page:

I don’t know I have so many types of relationships, but I suspect some are left over from v2, as this .aeon file v3 converted from v2, and junk like “Participant” and “Observer” were v2 things (still in v3? don’t know). Also “Location” and “Locations”?

Anyway, it’s working at 100%. Awesome!
