Why is my layout different from the guide's screenshots?

This is a screenshot from the how-to guide

(Okay it still wouldn’t let me post two pictures so you can just go look at help.timeline.app

And this is what my side looks like:

Ignoring the theme differences, the layout is different too. Why is this? Where can I find the settings for that? Was that a previous version? (If so then too bad cuz the first layout looks a lot better in my opinion.)

And yeah, I looked through the desktop interface article and it is indeed a lot different from mine. I’m on Windows. Could I be using a previous version? But I just downloaded it like 3 days ago and I’m still on the trial.

I cannot answer your question but this I can comment. The forum software, Discourse, restricts new users until they have posted, answered, or liked a few posts. It is a countermeasure against spammers and other kinds of bots. Might be an issues for new users how knows too little to help on some topic, but it does reduce the garbage. The prerequisites should be stated here somewhere (not in a post, nor a Aeon website, but in the onboarding or the menus). You could also search the web for the documentation.

Hi @Tofutush,

Your screenshot is from what looks to be the latest release version. The user guide documents obviously need to be updated. Hence the difference in appearance.

The app has undergone some extensive redesign measures which had been in beta for a while and the general consensus of opinion during the beta was that the changes are very much for the better. Regarding the inspector layout: the previous version of this meant clicking into panes to open up the detail for each event. Now the user can easily collapse or expand sections they wish to see and have the info display on a single, scrolling pane, with previews showing the content of collapsed sections. It is much quicker, slicker and easier to see info at a glance.

As for your question re this being a setting, the answer is no. This is how the inspector displays in the current version.

Hope that helps.

Andrew
